One person is dead after a fire broke out in an Avondale residence on the city’s Northwest Side Friday afternoon, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to reports of a working fire in the 3000 block of West George Street just before 3:10 p.m., according to Larry Merritt, a Chicago Fire Department spokesperson.
Merritt confirmed one person was reported dead but couldn’t share any further details, including the nature of their injuries, their age or gender. Merritt was not aware of any other transports, he said.
The fire was out as of 3:50 p.m.
