The Los Angeles Rams have enjoyed a lot of success under head coach Sean McVay, especially in the postseason. During his first eight years at the helm of the team, L.A. has gone 8-5, made two Super Bowls and won one Lombardi Trophy.
And in 2025, McVay and the Rams are back in the postseason and looking to add to that playoff win column. They’ll take on the Carolina Panthers in the wild-card round, a team McVay has not faced in any of his 13 playoff matches.

Oddly enough, McVay has never coached against the same team in the playoffs over those 13 games (h/t u/LucarioSkywalker on Reddit for the find). Here’s every team McVay has coached against in the postseason, including the Panthers:
2018: Cowboys, Saints, Patriots
2021: Cardinals, Buccaneers, 49ers, Bengals
If the Rams beat the Panthers in the wild-card round, though, that streak could end. The Rams will play either the Seahawks, Eagles, or Bears in the divisional round if L.A. advances, depending on the results of the other two wild-card games.
The only scenario in which McVay would face a new playoff team is if the Packers upset the Eagles and the Bears beat the 49ers. The Packers, as the seventh and lowest remaining seed in the postseason, would go to Seattle to face the top-seeded Seahawks. The Rams, meanwhile, would head to Chicago to face the Bears. McVay has never coached against the Bears in the playoffs, so the streak would stay alive.
The streak would certainly end in the NFC title game if the Rams make it that far. McVay has coached against the Packers and Seahawks in the playoffs during his tenure as Rams head coach.

For now, though, this is a fun little wrinkle of McVay’s coaching career.
