After spending five years coaching at the University of Oklahoma, DeMarco Murray is headed back to the NFL.
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Kansas City Chiefs are hiring Murray as their new running backs coach. Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports was the first to report Murray as an emerging candidate.
During his NFL career, Murray rushed for 7,174 yards at 4.5 yards per attempt and 49 touchdowns. His best season was with Dallas in 2014, when he rushed for 1,845 yards and 13 scores en route to being named AP Offensive Player of the Year.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed Murray to a five-year, $42 million contract the following offseason, but the marriage only lasted one year. Chip Kelly failed to play Murray to his strengths, and the disastrous season led to Kelly’s firing. Murray was then traded to Tennessee, where he enjoyed a resurgence before retiring at age 30.
Murray is set to join forces with returning offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy in an effort to revamp Kansas City’s ground game.
